Thriving Is A Choice

Thrive is such a great action verb.
When I hear it, I instantly think of Miracle Gro. You know the fertilizer you put on plants to make them twice as green, twice as tall, and incredibly more fruitful?
A dose of Miracle Gro makes them thrive. Now, imagine your brain on Miracle Gro. WOW! Bigger, stronger, more creative and innovative.
The career you have is a journey of learning. You need to thrive to survive. It’s not enough to just show up every day from 9 to 5. You need to be constantly evolving your perspectives, which requires a concerted degree of learning and growing.
Ask yourself:
What am I doing to thrive in my career? My life?
Have I read a business-related book? Am I watching podcasts? Do I author a blog? Am I current on industry news? Have I taken a class? Have I attended a seminar? Gone to an event? Networked? Studied? Debated? ANYTHING?!
Your efforts to continue to learn throughout your career are critical to your future growth. Pour into your noggin as much as you can. Become a life-long learner.
Let everyone else go to work 9 to 5 then go home and flip on the TV. You, my friend, you need to get out of the pile (as Jack Welch would say). The more you soak up knowledge, the more you differentiate yourself from all the other worker bees around the water cooler.
When you thrive, you invest in your future self. You allow yourself to grow in the breadth and depth of your career.
Commit to learning.
I guarantee you it will be the best career investment you’ll make.
